Botox
What is Botox?
Botox treatments are a simple, safe, and effective way to improve facial expression lines (frown lines between the eyebrows, crow’s feet at the outside corner of the eyes, forehead wrinkles and more). This injectable works by preventing the communication between the nerves and the muscles, allowing your facial muscles to fully rest.
The results are usually dramatic and are revealed within 7-14 days. A single treatment can relax your muscles for as long as 3-5 months. The treatment “quiets” the upper one-third of the face and can make you look much more youthful.
How does Botox work?
Botox blocks impulses from the nerve to the tiny facial muscles that are related to expression lines. Treatments relax the muscles so they do not contract as intensely. After treatment, the overlying skin remains smooth and unwrinkled, while the untreated facial muscles contract as they normally do. These treatments are also preventative against lines and wrinkles becoming deeper over time.
Are the treatments safe?
Botox injections have been used safely and effectively for over ten years to treat many ophthalmologic and neurological disorders. Each year many thousands of patients receive Botox treatments for a variety of conditions. It is becoming an increasingly popular treatment for reversing the visible signs of aging.
What can I expect during treatments?
Using a tiny micro-needle, a very small amount of Botox is injected, very precisely, into several locations in the face. No sedation or local anesthetic is required and you can resume normal activities immediately. When injected in small amounts, Botox works to incapacitate those muscles that cause you to frown. The injections themselves take about 10 minutes, and the effect usually lasts 3-5 months.
Are there any side effects?
Side effects of Botox used for skin purposed are rare and are generally localized to the skin areas that were treated. Some patients may experience a slight, temporary bruising at the injection site. This can be easily covered with makeup. Risks and side effects depend on the person who is administering the injections.
